My body chemistry was changing, and I could say goodbye to chemical peels, bleach on the scalp and gel nails. I knew it was time to reassess my routine. My skin is already sensitive so I would have to get back to basics.
I started to get these strange red marks on my cheeks which I later read was from hormonal shifts and changes in blood flow which resulted in red marks on my face.
I tested out a lot of products to rid this but Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair did the trick. It was calming, cooling and in the morning the redness was gone.
For any other blemishes I cover up with Hourglass Vanish Foundation Stick its so easy to use on the go.
For hair I have stayed away from bleach on my scalp and have only gotten highlights away from the root twice in the last 8 months, which was probably the hardest thing but I told myself it was my time to get my hair really healthy and let it breathe for a while. I do hair treatments religiously. Here are some great ones.
I also recommend getting your hair trimmed every 6 weeks if you aren’t already. If you are taking prenatals your hair will grow fast and long and its also great way to pamper yourself.
3/5 DRY LIPS
This seriously is all purpose and I don’t leave the house without it. I also make sure to exfolate my lips everyday.
4/5 MELASMA & SUNSCREEN
It wasn’t until month 7 that I got the so called “pregnancy glow”. It also wasn’t until month 7 that I started feeling good. Morning aka all day sickness had taken over my life so to fake that glow I used Paula’s Choice Suncare which left my skin looking dewy.
I also use this sunscreen cause its 50 SPF and Melasma is real and runs in my family. Melasma is brown spots that appear on your cheeks, chin, nose and forehead due to hormonal changes during pregnancy & sun exposure. So since I had a predisposition I stayed clear of the sun when I could and if not wore a hat and used sunscreen religiously.
Last but certainly not least stretch mark prevention. Pai Skincare Oil plus some Spoiled Mama Tummy Butter.. My husband says I have over used it but as I write I am happy to report I have no stretch marks.
I would lather up twice a day morning & at night after a nice hot shower. This started to become my guilty pleasure; a steamy shower with candles lite and lights out. After getting out I would treat myself to a ton of oil on my belly, thighs and breasts and then mix in the butter.
Looking back I was really excited about going natural and cutting back on everything but I also realized that pampering myself is the most important thing. I mean, you’re creating a baby…. a human life and you deserve to put your feet up and get your hair done.
